The Great Maneuvers Board Game

The Great Maneuvers Board Game

Rules of the game : This game is played by two. Each player has his respective troops on each of the bottom squares of the checkerboard in front of him as he wishes. As there are only eight squares and there are ten pawns, he places as scouts, that is to say a rank in front, either infantry or cavalry, the artillery in front always, at the start of the game, be placed in the last line. In turn, each player then evolves his regiments by moving only one of them at each move. The infantry (represented by a small soldier's head) advance in all directions, but cannot retreat and only move from one space to another. The cavalry (represented by a horse's head) advances two by two squares without being able to jump over a regiment of its color. The artillery (a small cannon) captures any pieces that are separated and within its line of fire, either horizontal or vertical. When an infantry regiment encounters an enemy regiment that is separated from the others, it can capture it; similarly, cavalry will capture an enemy regiment separated by two squares and isolated, and artillery will capture any regiment from one end of the checkerboard to the other, provided it is separated from the others. In a word, except for the difference in march, the game will be played like the game of checkers, and the one of the players who will have taken all the regiments of his adversary or will have immobilized them will be declared the winner.
